Granola Crackers (2 Ways!)
I made these crackers because I’m currently in the middle of a social media challenge where I’m only eating granola-based meals for an entire week. But, fun fact, I've always wanted to add crackers to our Rooted Living snack line. So, this was also me doing a little research and development 😉
And this recipe, surprisingly, has been one of the best things I've made so far this week.
Most people think of granola as strictly breakfast food. Maybe a snack if you’re grabbing something quick. But during this challenge, I kept asking myself the same question over and over: how far can one ingredient really go?
There’s something really satisfying to my creative brain about taking a familiar ingredient and pushing it just far enough that it becomes something new, without adding anything complicated. Just granola, seeds, a little liquid, and time in the oven. That’s it. And out comes something crisp, savory, and genuinely snackable. The kind of thing you’d dip into hummus, throw onto a salad, or eat straight off the tray.
Sometimes I have to do multiple test batches of things, but instantly, the first batch surprised me. I was like, wait… this actually works.
And once the savory version worked, it felt impossible not to try the opposite direction too. 😇
Because if granola could become a cracker, why couldn’t it become something sweet and snappy, closer to a brittle? Same starting point, slightly different ingredients and choice of granola flavor, and suddenly the texture shifts again. Thin, crisp pieces with maple sweetness and that perfect snap when you break them apart. Two completely different outcomes from almost the same base!!
This whole granola-only week has really been about testing the edges of something simple. Seeing whether one thoughtful ingredient can stretch across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between without getting boring. And honestly, these crackers and brittle were the moment I realized… it actually might.
I never thought I would say this, but making these seedy crackers also reminded me of something bigger behind Rooted Living.
I’ve never been interested in making complicated food or over-designed recipes. What excites me more is the idea that simple, real ingredients, used creatively, can fit into real life in a meaningful way. Food that’s easy enough to make on a normal day when you’re tired or busy but still want to nourish your body without buying something wrapped in plastic packaging.
That’s what these feel like.
And if I’m being honest, they also made me start thinking a little bigger. Because when something this simple turns out this good, it’s hard not to imagine where it could go next. Different flavors. Different textures. Maybe even something that lives beyond my kitchen someday. 😎
But for now, I like that they started here.
In the middle of a slightly chaotic granola-only challenge, just trying to figure out what lunch was supposed to be.
If you try them, you’ll understand why I’m keeping this recipe around long after the week is over.

Rooted Living Kitchen
Savory Cracker Ingredients
- 1 bag of Rooted Living granola (we recommend Peanut Butter Crunch or Sunbutter for a savory cracker)
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1/4 cup ground flax seeds
- 3 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup of water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Directions
Step 1
First, start by adding your granola, seeds, and salt to a bowl. Break up any big granola clusters by hand.
Step 2
Add in the water and olive oil. Mix everything thoroughly.
Step 3
Put mixture in the fridge for 15 minutes. In the meantime, preheat your oven to 325F, and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Step 4
After 15-20 minutes, the batter will have softened and thickened. Then, you can spread it out as thin as possible onto the parchment. The thinner you can make it, the shorter the bake time and crispier the crackers will be.
Step 5
Bake anywhere from 25-40 minutes (depending on how thin your batter is. Then, flip the crackers onto the other side using a spatula. Cook for another 15-30 mins. Let cool completely before breaking up the crackers by hand. Enjoy with hummus, on a salad, or alone as a snack!
